By-Product in Production Documents

by-product-sap-b1-tips

In the production process, there are sometimes secondary products resulting from production that can be reused or sold. For example, in the wheat milling process, the secondary product produced is wheat germ. In SAP Business One, these secondary products are referred to as “by-products.” You can add by-products to the Production Order and Bill of Material documents in the same way as adding regular items, but with a negative quantity specified for the by-product. To add by-products to a production document, follow these steps:

  • Go to Production > Production Order menu or Production > Bill of Materials
  • Add the by-product item in the same manner as adding regular items, then specify a negative quantity to indicate that it is a by-product. If a by-product is added to a Bill of Material document, it will also appear when creating a Production Order document.

When performing a Receipt from Production transaction, the by-products will appear alongside the main produced items. You can adjust the received quantities as needed. By-products are easily identified by SAP Business One, as they are marked in the by-product column.
