In SAP B1, there is an option that provides greater flexibility in the item duplication process. With the “Duplicate Bar Codes While Duplicating Items” checkbox located in General Settings > Inventory Tab > Items Sub-Tab, you can determine whether barcodes will be duplicated when duplicating an item. If you do not want the barcode to be duplicated, you can ensure that the checkbox is unchecked.
Implications of enabling or disabling this option:
- Enabled (Checkbox Checked): When duplicating an item, all barcodes associated with the original item will be copied to the new item. This is useful if the new item has characteristics similar to the original item and you want to retain the same barcode. However, note that having the same barcode for multiple items may cause confusion in inventory management and barcode scanning.
- Disabled (Checkbox Unchecked): When duplicating an item, the barcode from the original item will not be copied to the new item. This allows you to assign a unique barcode to each item, helping to prevent duplication and ensuring accuracy in inventory tracking. This approach is recommended to avoid potential issues caused by duplicate barcodes on different items.
By understanding and configuring this option according to business needs, you can manage item data and barcodes more effectively in SAP Business One.
